Screen Appearances
Haunted Ulster Live (2024)
Beyond Visible Films
Film. 77 mins
Dir. Dominic O'Neill.
Released: 8 October 2024
On Halloween night, Gerry Burns teams up with popular children's presenter Michelle Kelly to investigate poltergeist activity in a haunted house in Belfast.
I have a small part in this local production, which also features my regular collaborators Geoff Hatt and Mark Claney.
Bangor's Ghost (2022)
Film. 70 mins
Dir. Rachel McCarthy
I played the part of Victorian writer Wesley Guard Lyttle in this cine-poem about the history and soul of Northern Irish seaside town, Bangor.
This is a filmed version of elements that feature in the (near) annual Bangor's Ghost festival. For more information visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/658166350967477/
Visit Mourne - Narnia Experience (2022)
Short film. SpeedMotion Films
Dir. Damien Gallagher
I play the part of writer C.S. Lewis in this promotional film for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Narnia Trail at Kilbroney Forest Park.
We filmed on location around the Cloughmore Stone.
My understanding is that the film plays in the visitor's centre, but I've not been down to check!
C.S. Lewis and I were both students at Campbell College Belfast, so getting the chance to play him and speak some of his words took on an extra resonance for me.
The Also Rans series 2 (2019) - unreleased
Web Series.
Dir. Colm Laverty
I filmed scenes with writer/stars Mick McCullagh and Tony Wright for the second series of the popular Northern Irish web sitcom, with me playing the part of a record producer during a very intense but immensely fun shoot.
Unfortunately, the second series wasn't released and has since been lost.
Some Fall Short (2018)
Short Film.
Dir. Ben Irvine
I play the part of a cop in this comedy short filmed in Belfast Met.
The Woman in White (2018)
TV series. BBC
Dir. Carl Tibbets
I'm a non-speaking dinner guest in this BBC adaptation of the popular Wilkie Collins novel. Filmed in an
I ended up having my beard shaved into a peculiar Victorian style for this one, which left me looking like Lemmy from Motorhead as it grew back!
Greta (2018)
Feature Film.
Dir. Neil Jordan
I filmed as an extra on Neil Jordan's The Widow (released as Greta) in Dublin city centre in September 2017, standing in for New York. I filmed scenes in a club, restaurant, and on the city streets, and provided my own costumes.
I'm not sure I'm even visible in the final cut! But did mean getting to see a little of Chloë Grace Moretz at work, who had been in Hammer's Let Me In, which pleased me!
Drug Dealers Don't Care, Do You? Kenny's Story (2017)
Advert.
Dir. Christopher McClenaghan
I play the part of one of Kenny's concerned friends in this advert for a Belfast City Council drugs awareness campaign, filmed in Carrickfergus.
There are two different edits of the advert.
Ireland's Most Shocking Crimes: Almost the Perfect Murder (2017)
TV Series. TG4
Dir. Charlotte Blennerhassett.
I play the part of a coroner in the dramatic reconstruction scenes in this true-crime documentary about murderer Colin Whelan.
Shot in Dublin. Fun fact - I was originally meant to play the part of a Garda officer, but couldn't shave my beard as I was still doing work on Game of Thrones concurrent with this, and Garda officers at the time the scenes were set, had to be clean-shaven. In the end the guy playing the Garda officer has a beard anyway!
Game of Thrones (2016-2017)
TV Series. HBO
Dir. Mark Mylod, Miguel Sapochnik.
I worked on the last four episodes of season 6 and the first of season 7 in various non-speaking roles. My first day on set was for the infamous Battle of the Bastards as one of the Stark army.
I filmed in Titanic Studios in Belfast, the Linen Halls studio in Banbridge, Maghermorne and Moneyglass. Most of my work was as a Stark, but in The Winds of Winter you'll see me meet a firey end in the Great Sept, only to be revived as a Stark at the episode's end. The magic of tv!
War of the Worlds (2016)
Installation video. Banterflix for Belfast Culture Night
Dir. Jim McClean.
Produced for playback at Belfast's Culture Night, 2016. This was a fairly simple film of me reading extracts from H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds.
We're Doomed! The Dad's Army Story (2015)
BBC
Dir. Steve Bendelack.
I filmed as an extra for this film about the origins of one of my favourite sitcoms as a BBC staff member. Shot in Belfast.
I'm barely discernible in the final edit in a scene behind Paul Ritter and Keith Allen.
Spotlight (2014)
BBC Northern Ireland
We spent an evening filming in the streets behind Havelock House (the home of UTV) in Belfast as rioters in a reconstruction for one of Spotlight's documentaries on Northern Irish issues.
Paranoia Abounds (2008)
Short film
Dir. Danny Meegan
I worked on this short as DP, but also make a brief onscreen appearance at the end.
The Long Walk to Hell (1997)
Short film
Dir. Richard Barr
The first film I was ever involved in. Filmed on Hi-8mm video in East Belfast. Twice. Back in my school days!
I play the part of Death. And I edited it old-skool using two VCRs.
The film was shortlisted in the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker of the Year awards. From memory I was told it also played at a film festival in Bradford.
